WHERE WE CAME FROM

Mark Paulsen founded Wilderness Athlete in 2004 with the goal of bringing the latest scientific advancements in sports nutrition to the hunting and outdoor community. With a career of over 30 years in strength and conditioning and a lifelong passion for hunting, Mark was inspired to use that experience to elevate the health and performance of outdoorsmen and women. In the middle of an adrenaline-filled and exhausting elk hunt in New Mexico, Mark was struck with the idea of Wilderness Athlete and how it could be the solution for outdoor athletes needing to gain an edge.

Blessed with the friendships of two leading minds in the scientific, nutritional, and academic worlds,

Mark catapulted Wilderness Athlete products with the research and formulation practices of Dr. Harry Preuss and Richard Schechenbach. With decades of experience on his research and formulation team and a young, ambitious family at home to pack and ship orders, Mark began transforming the way hunters approached their health and fitness.
